Mentioning that no profession is disrespectful, Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud on Wednesday said he himself worked as a waiter in restaurants while pursuing higher education abroad.
“I used to work at restaurants while studying abroad. That means I used to work as a tea boy. The term ‘tea boy’ is not used there but waiter. I’ve little hesitation that I used to do that work for days after days, months after months,” he said.
The minister was giving personal donation to film director Aronno Polsah who is now working as a restaurant waiter after losing everything for making film ‘Gontobbo’.
He handed over Tk 1 lakh to the film director at the secretariat.
Hasan also said he will talk to the committee concerned to take necessary steps for releasing the film.
“You shouldn’t get ashamed of the work you’re doing,” Hasan told Aronno Polsah.
According to reports published in different newspapers, Aronno Polsah lost everything for making the film, Gontobbo’, and he is now struggling to release the movie.
The reports said Aronno has made the film spending Tk 70 lakh after selling his father’s assets and wife’s ornaments and taking loans which was approved by the Bangladesh Film Censor Board but could not be released for lack of money.
Unable to find a job for two months, he started working at a restaurant in Mirpur as a waiter.unb
