UPL’s annual grand sale of its own publications and foreign books which began on Friday attracted a good number of book lovers.
Eminent publishing company University Press Limited (UPL) arranged its 14th Annual Grand Sale and this year for the first time, the Faculty of Social Sciences of Dhaka University co-hosted the event with a view to add a new dimension to the book fair this year.
Md Shakhawat Ali, sales executive of UPL told UNB that the fair is getting huge response from the very beginning.
Even on the weekly holidays a good number of people are coming to visit the fair and buying books, he added.
Md Abdul Mannan, Divisional Commissioner of Chittagong, who has come to Dhaka from Chittagong to attend the fair, told UNB that he has come here to collect his desired books after knowing about the event through a Facebook post.
Appreciating the initiative, he said, UPL has been responsibly providing great qualities of publications since a very long time. Students or book lovers who cannot always afford to buy quality books can avail the opportunity of the fair.
The theme for this year’s sale is, “40 years of working towards a knowledge-based society: excellence in research of the social sciences”.
The book fair is open public every day from 10 AM to 8 PM until the 16th of May, 2018. The fari is being held on the 2nd floor of the Faculty of Social Sciences building, at the Dhaka University campus.
Over a thousand books published by UPL, both English and Bangla, and over a thousand books by well-known foreign publishers is available at the fair at very attractive discounts starting from 30 per cent and up to 70 per cent, as part of the UPL’s constant effort to encourage readership among the public.
A great number of readers from across the country come to visit the fair every year, said the organizers.unb
