UGC chairman’s mother passes away

Alhaz Salema Khatun, mother of UGC Chairman Professor Abdul Mannan, died at her Kazir Dewri residence in Chittagong early Thursday. She was 93.

Salema was wife of renowned social worker late Abdus Salam, also a former UP member.

She left behind her four sons, three daughters and a host of well-wishers to mourn her death, said a press release.

UGC chairman and renowned columnist Professor Abdul Mannan is the eldest child of Salema.

Her namaz-e-janaza will be held at Jamiaatul Falah Mosque after Asr prayers. Later, she will be buried at her family graveyard in Chittagong.

UGC members, secretary, divisional heads and officials have expressed their profound shock at the death of the mother of Professor Abdul Mannan. They prayed for salvation and eternal peace of the departed soul and expressed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members.
