Sylhet stone quarry worker killed in landslide


A female worker was killed and four other workers were injured in a landslide while extracting stone from a quarry in Jaflong of Goainghat upazila early Monday, reports news agency UNB.

The deceased is Champa Das, 17, daughter of Ranjit Das, a resident of Shyampur village of Kaliajhuri upazila in Netrokona district.

A portion of mud collapsed on a group of worker while they were extracting stone from the quarry owned by a local Jubo League leader Nanu Miah, leaving Champa dead on the spot and four other workers injured said Goainghat police station officer-in-charge Hillol Roy.

Later, police arrested the stone quarry owner Nanu, president of Purba Jaflong union unit of Jubo League.
