Sri Lanka defeated Afghanistan by 31 runs to make the final against India on October 7 courtesy of Nuwanidu Fernando’s ton and a four-wicket haul from Shashika Dulshan.
Afghanistan won the toss at the Shere Bangla National Stadium and sent Sri Lanka to bat first and the Lankans were in early trouble losing both openers for naught. Coming in to bat at two down, Fernando stuck around scoring 129-ball 111 with eight fours and three sixes as Sri Lanka reached 209 for 7.
Afghanistan started their chase well with captain Rahmatullah Gurbaz scoring a 70-ball 46 before Dulshan removed him in the 24th over. That started a middle-order slump as Afghans lost quick wickets in the middle overs. Ijaz, who provided some resistance at the middle was the final wicket to fall with Dulshan once again the wicket-taker as Afghanistan were bowled out for 178 in 48.3 overs.
