The Election Commission (EC) has asked the returning officers not to set up any polling station in a place which is under the grip of any particular candidate in the parliamentary elections slated for December 30.
The Commission issued a notification in this regard, EC joint secretary Farhad Ahammad Khan who signed the notification told UNB on Sunday.
“As per the article 8 (4) of the Representation of the People Order 1972, a polling station can’t be installed under any circumstance in a place which is under the influence or control of any contender,” reads the notification-6 of the national election.
If any polling station is found in a place which is under the dominance of any particular candidate after the deadline for candidacy withdrawal, the Election Commission will have to be informed immediately, the notification says.
The Commission in the notification also directed the returning officers not to appoint any presiding officer as much as possible in the upazila from where he or hails.
But in case of a constituency consisting of only one upazila, the rules may not be applicable in this regard.unb
