Bangladesh will keep the Rohingya issue on its priority list for discussion during Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s planned visit to China in the first week of July, indicates Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen.
“The Rohingya issue will come up as a major topic during Prime Minister’s China visit,” he told reporters at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs here, hoping that Myanmar will feel more pressure to act and take back their nationals.
Bangladesh is now hosting over 1.2 million Rohingyas and majority of them entered the country since August 25, 2017.
Both Bangladesh and Chinese sides are working to finalise dates for Prime Minister’s visit to China.
China has been advocating for resolving the Rohingya crisis peacefully through discussion between Bangladesh and Myanmar.
Dr Momen said China is sincere to help Bangladesh in resolving the crisis.
Earlier, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) called upon the ad hoc ministerial committee, led by the Gambia, to take immediate measures to launch the case of Myanmar’s human rights violations against Rohingyas at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on behalf of the OIC.
It affirmed its support for the ad hoc ministerial committee on human rights violations against the Rohingyas in Myanmar, using all international legal instruments to hold accountable the perpetrators of crimes against the Rohingya.unb
