A portion of the Jamuna River protection embankment collapsed again at Chauddarashi of Chauhali upazila on Friday.
At least a 150-metre portion of the dam went into the gorge of the river around 2pm, said Shahidul Islam Shahid, chairman of Khash Kawlia union parishad.
He said Bangladesh Water Development Board built the seven-km river protection embankment at a cost of Tk 109 crore to protect Chauhali upazila of the district and Nagpur upazila of Tangail district.
River erosion started at the Chauddarashi point on Friday noon and at least 150 metres of the embankment were devoured by the river, the UP chairman added.
Shahjahan Siraj, executive engineer of Tangail Water Development Board, said necessary steps will be taken after visiting the spot.
With this, the embankment collapsed for 15 times.unb
