A private clinic was sealed off in Matlab Uttar upazila on Wednesday over many irregularities, including wrong treatment.
Locals said a housewife identified as Tooghi Rani Sarker, 42, wife of Khitish Sarker of Kolakanda village in the upazila, died allegedly for wrong treatment at ‘Maria General Hospital and Diagnostic Centre’ at Chhengarchar Bazar on Sunday night while having an abortion.
Her body was also dumped in a canal at Shatnol. Police recovered the body after pedestrians spotted it and informed the law enforcers.
Victim’s husband filed a case accusing nurse Afroza Akhter Jhunu, night guard Jamal and three others of the clinic.
Later, Afroza and Jamal were arrested on Monday and they were sent to jail on Wednesday afternoon.
Civil Surgeon Dr Shafiqul Islam formed a three-member inquiry committee, led by Matlab Uttar upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr Shankar Kumar Saha, to look into the incident.
The committee submitted its report to the Civil Surgeon today and the clinic was sealed off following the probe report.
Contacted, the Civil Surgeon said the clinic has no licence to run its activities. Besides, it has neither any qualified doctor nor any nurse nor any staff member. unb
