PM seeks more Danish investment; offers space in SEZ

Mentioning that Bangladesh has a very potential market, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday sought more Danish investment here and offered space in the country’s special economic zones for setting up Danish industries.

She made the offer when outgoing Danish Ambassador in Dhaka Mikael Hemniti Winther paid a farewell call on her at her office.

PM’s Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim briefed reporters after the meeting.

The Prime Minister expressed satisfaction over the existing bilateral relations and thanked the Danish envoy for his role in strengthening the ties and cooperation between Bangladesh and Denmark.

She lauded the friendly countries that came forward to assist Bangladesh in facing the problems created following the influx of Rohingyas.

Sheikh Hasina also highlighted Bangladesh’s socio-economic development and massive progress in the technology use.

She said the use of technology by people helped increase the country’s GDP growth.

The Prime Minister said her government made the telephone system digitised and broke the monopoly in the mobile phone market after coming to power in 1996.

About disasters, she said Bangladesh made a good number of trained volunteers to protect lives and assets of the people during any natural calamity.

The Danish envoy said the Bangladesh-Denmark relation has reached a new height.

He reaffirmed Denmark’s commitment to extending humanitarian assistance to Bangladesh for the displaced Myanmar nationals so that they can go back to their homeland.

Mikael Hemniti Winther highly appreciated the Prime Minister’s humanitarian gesture of hosting 1.1 million Rohingyas.

He said he is optimistic about successes of Bangladesh.

Hailing the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the envoy said Bangladesh has witnessed huge progress and the image of the country has reached to a new height in the international arena.
