The teachers of the non-government primary schools are continuing their fasting on the demand of nationalization in front of National Press Club for straight nine days on Monday.
Under the banner of “Bangladesh Besarkari Prathamik Shikkhak Samity”, a platform of private primary school teachers’ they started the indefinite hunger strike on January 27 following a sit-in and ‘symbolic hunger strike’ during January 21-26.
According to a press release of the striking association, government has already nationalised 26,193 primary schools established before May 9 of 2012 after the announcement of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on January 9, 2013. However, around 4,000 primary schools were not included in the third phase of the nationalisation process though they fulfilled the requirements for the process.
Md. Mamunur Rashid, the president of the association, told UNB that they will continue the hunger strike till their demand is met.
