At an event of the United Nations Commission of the Status of Women (CSW) in New York, Deputy Education Minister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury has raised unprecedented success stories of Bangladesh over gender equity and women empowerment.
He was speaking as a panelist at the programme on the sidelines of the 63rd CSW session on Monday, said a PID handout here on Wednesday.
Bangladesh and International Trade Centre jointly arranged the event. Namibia and Ruanda and UKAid were co-organisers of the event.
Mohibul Hasan, who is leading a Bangladesh delegation in the CSW session there, focused on the remarkable successes Bangladesh achieved over the gender equity and women empowerment under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
He said Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman started working for gender equity in Bangladesh and his daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has placed the women empowerment at the central point of the national development.
Sheikh Hasina has set a rare example for ensuring successful and long-term women leadership, he said.
The deputy minister said Bangladesh has focused on the participation of women and gender sensitivity in all national plans, development policies and programmes.
The other Bangladeshi delegates include Bangladesh permanent representative to the UN Masud Bin Momen, Women and Children Affairs Secretary Kamrun Nahar, Cabinet Division Secretary (Coordination and Reform) Dr Md Shamsul Arefin, acting Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Secretary Rownaq Jahan and Director General of Women Affairs Department Badrun Nessa.
The 63rd CSW session, which started on Monday, will continue till March 22.unb
