Marshall Island President Dr Hilda Heine and former UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon arrive here on Tuesday on a two-day visit to attend the “Dhaka Meeting of the Global Commission on Adaptation”.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is scheduled to inaugurate the key part of the two-day meeting on Wednesday morning at InterContinental Dhaka.
The Marshal Island President is scheduled to arrive at 12:50 am while Ban Ki-moon at 6pm on the same day.
Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen briefed reporters about the meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs here on Monday.
The Foreign Minister said that in the meeting discussion will be held on a special report on adaptation prepared by GCA and the report with high-level recommendations on adaptation will be revealed to the global community ahead of the UN Secretary General’s Climate Summit in September, 2019.
The recommendations will include different mechanisms to face the adverse effects of climate change, he said
The Minister is scheduled to receive them at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
World Bank CEO Kristalina Georgieva, commissioners of Global Commission on Adaptation, representatives of different international organisations and climate change experts will also attend the meeting.
Ban Ki-moon, the current chair of Global Commission on Adaptation (GCA), will address a session titled “Way forward and next step towards climate change adaptation”.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is likely to hold a meeting with the Marshall Island President and the former UN chief at the same hotel.
Dr Hilda, Ban Ki-moon and CGA CO-Chair Dr Kristaline Georgieva will address the opening session of the meeting.
The Marshal Island President and Ban Ki-moon are likely to visit Khrushkul Special Asrayan Project at Ukhiya in Cox’s Bazar district.
The Marshal Island President, Ban Ki-moon, the World Bank CEO and GCA commissioners will visit Rohingya camp in Kutupalang .
A team comprising commissioners and foreign delegates will visit Naria area in Shariatpur district to visit government steps taken to prevent river erosion there.
Foreign Minister Dr Momen will host a dinner in honour of the dignitaries at InterContinental in the evening.
Dr Hilda and Ban Ki-moon will leave Dhaka in the early hours of Thursday.
The foreign minister will see them off at the airport. unb
