Madrasa girl ‘raped’ by factory worker in Dhaka

An eight-year-old madrasa girl was raped at her home allegedly by a factory worker in Dhaka’s Uttarkhan area yesterday.

Police last night arrested the alleged rapist Riaz Uddin, 40, a worker of a washing factory in the area, Helal Uddin, officer-in-charge of Uttarkhan Police Station, told The Daily Star today.

The OC said Riaz entered the girl’s tin-shed house near the factory around 4:00pm and violated her when her father, a mason, and her mother, a housemaid, were out of the house.

The victim narrated the incident to her mother after she came home around 8:00pm, said the OC.

Police arrested Riaz soon after they received phone from the victim’s family members in this regard, he said.

The girl was taken to One-stop Crisis Centre (OCC) of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) last night.

The victim’s father filed a case against Riaz with the police station last night in this connection, OC Helal
