Islamic University (IU) authorities have temporarily suspended one of its employees, also the president of employee association, for allegedly creating unstable situation on the campus.
The decision was taken at an emergency meeting with IU vice-chancellor Professor Dr M Harun-Ur-Rashid Askari in the chair at his office around 8pm, sources at IU registrar office said on Thursday morning.
The VC has issued the suspension order against Ukil Uddin, a sound system operator of Birshrestha Hamidur Rahman Auditorium, also the president of Islamic University Employees’ Association.
A three-member probe body, led by Dr Rezwanul Islam, professor of Biotechnology and Genetics Engineering department, was formed to investigate into the matter, said IU acting registrar SM Abdul Latif.
The university authorities also served him a show case notice to explain why he should not be terminated from his service for creating unstable situation on the campus, he added.
IU vice-chancellor Professor M Harun-Ur-Rashid Askari told UNB that they would take legal action against the employee if the probe body finds him guilty.
On Wednesday afternoon, Ukil along with the members of the association demonstrated on the campus and started chanting slogan against the university authorities after they learnt that the university authorities have cancelled increment system of its employees.
They also locked the university main entrance around 3pm, creating huge problems for the teachers and students to leave the campus.unb
