Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday asked the government officials to take proper steps to engage people from all classes in containing drug abuse, militancy and terrorism.
“We’ll have to face these menaces engaging people from all classes. So, you’ve to take appropriate measures in this regard,” she said while addressing the annual conference 2018 of Bangladesh Administrative Service Association at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the city.
Terming terrorism and militancy as a common problem across the world, the Prime Minister said the government has curbed militancy in the country with an iron hand. “Now, the government continues its drives against drugs,” she added.
Sheikh Hasina said her government established Bangladesh as the role model of development before the world in the last nine years. “Bangladesh achieved 7.78 percent GDP growth in the last fiscal year and the per capita income has now reached US$ 1775,” she said.
Mentioning that Bangladesh is marching forward, she said it has been able to launch Bangabandhu-1 satellite into the orbit.
The Prime Minister said the government is implementing the 7th five-year plan and the perspective plan 2010-2020. “The government is also working on the perspective plan 2021-2041 to turn Bangladesh into a developed country by 2041.”
She sought cooperation from the government officials in designing the perspective plan and asked them to provide innovative ideas if they have any.
Sheikh Hasina said the government officials have great responsibilities to build Bangladesh as ‘Sonar Bangla’ as dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Noting that the trend of the country’s development is now visible to people, she expressed the hope that it will continue in the future.
The Prime Minister asked the officials to work with self-confidence imbued with patriotism and the Liberation War spirit to further develop the country.
She also directed them to render services to people keeping in mind that their salaries and allowances are paid from the taxpayers’ money.
Mentioning that transparency and accountability is a must in every task, the Prime Minister directed the field administration to work with outmost efficiency to accomplish the development works.
She said national integrity strategy has been formulated as part of establishing good governance and integrity working plans are being implemented and assessed in 57 identified institutions.
Sheikh Hasina said the Public Interest Disclosures (Protection) Act, 2017 has been formulated to check corruption and establish national integrity.
Public hearing is taking place to resolve any problem in getting services, she said.
Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam, and President of the Bangladesh Administrative Service Association and Information Secretary Abdul Malek also spoke on the occasion while acting Water Resources Secretary and Secretary General of the Association Kabir Bin Anwar delivered the welcome speech.unb
