The Election Commission has created around 2,000 new posts including those of 517 assistant upazila election officers to strengthen overall activities of the commission ahead of the upcoming national election.
The commission will try to fill up the newly created posts before the 11th parliamentary election slated to be held at the end of December.
Besides, the EC has also recommended promoting around 75 of its officials with around three months left before the election.
Election Commissioner Mahbub Talukdar, also the chief of a committee on appointment and promotion of EC officials, told reporters today.
“Promotion spree is on in the public administration and in police department, and the wave has already touched the Election Commission,” Talukdar said.
He said nine regional election officers have been recommended for the fourth grade while 29 for deputy secretary (fifth grade).
Also, 37 officials have been recommended for the post of senior assistant secretary, he added.
