Dhaka University authorities on Wednesday withdrew its previous order expelling Iffat Jahan Isha, a leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League’s Kabi Sufia Kamal Hall unit, as its probe body found ‘no evidence of torture on a student inside the hall’ by Isha.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the Disciplinary Committee of the university presided over by DU Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman.
The committee has decided to withdraw the expulsion order as the university probe committee found no evidence of carrying out ‘torture’ on a student of the same hall, said DU Proctor Golam Rabbani.
Meanwhile, show-cause notices were issued against 26 other students of the hall as the probe body found their involvement in the incident, VC Akhtaruzzaman told UNB.
On April 11, the DU authorities expelled Isha, president of Sufia Kamal hall unit of BCL, as some BCL activists led by Isha allegedly swooped on some residents of the hall, leaving Morsheda Akhter, a 4th year student of Botany Department, critically injured.
They beat up Morsheda mercilessly for being involved in staging demonstrations demanding quota reform.
Hearing her screams, the other students of the dormitory rushed in and confined the BCL leader. Later, they handed Isha over to the hall provost after a good beating.
The probe body was formed soon after the incident.
Besides, the BCL central executive committee expelled Isha on charge of ‘violating organisational discipline’ and later withdrew it as the organisation also found her innocent.unb
