The government has relentlessly been working to build Digital Bangladesh, and collaboration is critically important in this borderless cyber world, said State Minister for Information and Communication Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak.
“One thing is critically important in this borderless cyber world and that’s collaboration – collaboration among governments, collaboration between public sector and private sector, collaboration among the government, industries and academia,” he said.
The State Minister was addressing a panel discussion titled ‘How to manage digital citizen centric e-governance’ at “Tallinn e-Governance Conference 2018” in Tallinn, Estonia.
Palak said all sorts of opportunities for extending collaboration should be explored and exercised. “We’re left with no option other than collaboration.”
He said Digital Bangladesh vision of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and its pillars are human resources development, connecting citizens, promoting e-governance, supporting the IT industry and digital entrepreneurship.
Palak said the prime challenge is to turn digital outliers into digital adopters. “Affordable and reliable internet is the key to overcome this challenge. We’ve expanded high speed optical fiber network up to district and sub-district level small towns.”
However, he said, more than two-thirds of population live in rural areas.
President of Estonia Kersti Kaljulaid inaugurated the two-day conference, said a press release.
Palak said they have already introduced more than a hundred e-services to disrupt the legacy system, which is heavily bureaucratic. “To cut the redundant steps in public service delivery system, we’re doing Business Process Re-engineering before introducing an e-service.”
He said countries like Estonia and Bangladesh belong to different stages of e-governance adoption matrix.
“However, we’ve one thing in common and that is strong political commitment to digitise our nation. Our people are also very smart and resilient to adopt new technologies. I’m confident someday we’ll be at same stage and we can mutually reinforce one another, if we collaborate,” Palak added.unb
