Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is thinking of appointing a psychologist for the national cricket team, said its president Nazmul Hassan on Tuesday.

Bangladesh national team recently escaped a frightening terror attack in New Zealand by seconds. Some of the players saw bloodstained bodies of the victims on the spot which affected their mental state badly.

“Yes, we are considering it (to appoint a psychologist). The national players who have toured New Zealand are now under our observation. Not just for this, we are considering to appoint a psychologist for a bigger reason,” Nazmul told the reporters.

“With the World Cup ahead, if a psychologist comes and spends some times with the players, it will help them to stay focused and mentally healthy. At the same time, if anyone needs extra care, we can arrange that for him as well,” Nazmul further said.

Bangladesh were supposed to play a three-match Test series against New Zealand. The third and final Test was scheduled to be played from March 16. But due to the attack, both of the boards decided to call the series off, and the Tigers returned home as early as possible.

They reached Dhaka at 10:45pm on March 16. Nazmul said upon their return: “Some of the players are mentally broken. They are not in a position to talk about what happened back in New Zealand. In this situation, we want them to pass time on their own. They don’t need to focus on the cricket right away.”

Mahmudullah Riyad, who led the Tigers in the Test series, said: “We just don’t want to remember what we saw in New Zealand. We had a sleepless night there. I want to thank you BCB to bringing us back home so quickly.”unb
