Bangladesh to reply to UNESCO on Rampal next week


rampal-imageBangladesh will reply to the queries of UNESCO in next week regarding the concerns on the proposed power plant in Rampal adjacent to the mangrove forest Sundarbans.

Power, energy and mineral resource state minister Nurul Hamid Bipu made the assertion while talking to media after the workshop on ‘Mitigating challenge in energy and power thought research’ at city’s Bidyut Bhaban on Sunday (September 25).

Bangladesh Energy and Power Research Center (EPRC) organized the seminar.

State minister said UNESCO has given their opinion on Rampal and several issues of rivers and their concern on using technology in Rampal project is not correct.

However, UNESCO did not provide any scientific explanation in this regard, yet our technical issues will be addressed in the reply after assessing the report, he added.

UNESCO will be convinced after recognizing the issues, the state minister hoped.
