Nobel Prize winning writer VS Naipaul will be inaugurating the Dhaka Literary Festival that will be held at the Bangla Academy on November 17-19.
He is the first Nobel laureate in literature coming to Bangladesh.
The event, which will be inaugurated at 11 am on Thursday, will be attended by more than 200 talents and over 60 guests of the literary world from 18 countries.
Around 100 panels will be held during the three-day event that will also feature cultural programmes, folk performances, poetry recitations, an editing workshop, children’s programme and film screenings.
Tributes will be paid to Bangladeshi novelist late Syed Shamsul Haq with a stage enactment in English of his short novel Neel Dongshon.
After the the attack on Holey Artisan Bakery on July 1, this event is important to reaffirm Bangladesh’s traditions to the world.
The festival will feature Bangladesh’s traditional musical programme – Jaarigan, Behula Lokhindar, Pala Gaan as well.
The event will also act as a platform to showcase young writers to the world stage.
Entry to the festival requires no ticket, but visitors have to register. Visitors can register online here or at the entrance.
