Law enforcers arrested four members of the banned militant outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) in Bagerhat Sadar upazila early on Thursday.
The suspects were arrested following a shootout between police and the gang.
The law enforcers recovered a pistol, two bomb-like substance, bomb-making materials and two sharp weapons.
They are active members of the JMB, according to the police.
The arrestees were identified as Md Murshed Alam, 20, Saiful Islam, 36, and Maksudur Rahman alias Tota, 20, from Satkhira, and Zahirul Islam, 20, from Pirujpur, according to police.
Pankaj Chandra Roy, superintendent of police in Bagerhat said acting on a tip-off, police conducted a raid at Christian Palli area around 12:30am and arrested them while the militants were holding a meeting there.
“They threw hand bombs and fired at the police. Police fired back. Two policemen were injured in the shooting, they have been given primary medical care,” the SP concluded.
